1. Introduce lesson and show example of baskets from around the world.

2. Demonstrate how to start off and coil the baskets.

3. Each student should get about 12 feet of coiling core. Using a piece of masking tape students put their name on one end of the coiling core. Using scissors taper the other end of the coil to a point and begin the basket. See photo instructions for starting off the basket from http://www.instructables.com/id/Coiling-a-Basket/

4. Students are instructed to come up with a color plan, either creating a patterned or random colored basket.

5. I print out photos of each step for reference purposes.

6.Students determine the shape of their baskets flat, round, tall, bowl shaped, cylinder, etc...

7. Students may choose to sew in items such as feathers, buttons, jewelry, etc...

8. After students have started the baskets I have students wrap the yarn 10 times, sew twice, we say"wrap 10, sew twice".

9. Demonstrate how to add a new piece of yarn and how to finish off a basket...see photo instructions.

10. There are also some good YouTube videos you may want to show as well.
