THE PLAN
10+ sessions; 45 minutes per session
Students will hand build a clay totem based on their personality traits.
Students will incorporate several clay construction techniques into their totem.
Students will add descriptive words and a traditional totem animal to their design.
1. Complete planning sheet
2. Construct paper model
3. Check with paper model occasionally to keep size consistent.
3. Fire and Glaze
Students will be assessed based on attached rubric.
I plan on using a wash of iron oxide and a clear dipping glaze to finish these off and protect them from the Wisconsin weather. We will install the piece in the spring.
THE STANDARDS
Visual Arts Standard 4: Understanding the visual arts in relation to history and cultures
