THE PLAN
1. SWBAT create a cityscape in the style of Paul Klee.
2. Using geometric shapes draw squares, triangles circles or rectangles to create your cityscape. Keep at least a quarter inch gap in between each shape. Be sure to leave enough space up above for your sky. We will come back to this later. (If students are having trouble creating shapes freehand they can use a ruler.)
3. Select your colors and fill in each shape with crayons. (Can not
use white)
4. Next fill in your sky with crayon leaving a gap around your shapes just like in step 1. (Do not use white)
5. With a white crayon fill in the gaps you left around your shapes and sky.
6. Using the watercolor resist technique, lighty cover your whole drawing with watercolor. (From past experience I find that darker colors work best for this project.)
--------------------------------------------
To help students learn about color theory have them do multiple art pieces using different color schemes.
Have them use primary, secondary, complementary, monochromatic or even colors chosen at random.
