This is a lesson using watercolor paints. Students will draw leaves onto their paper, put texture boards under their paper and rub with crayons to color leaves. Once finished, will paint over with watercolors to create a Wax/Crayon Resist. If students are finished early, they write a couple of sentences about their painting. These are 2nd grade samples.
1. Draw geometric shapes (10 minutes).
2. Draw various leaves starting with geometric shapes and turn them into (organic) leaves. (40 minutes depending on grade level.)
3. Place texture board under paper under leaf drawing and rub with crayon. (15 minutes)
4. Paint over leaves and background with watercolor paints. (40 minutes)
Students will be assessed based on the attached rubric and their final project.
Sometimes I have students that are finished way before others. This is a great opportunity for me to have them write about their artwork. I attached two samples and both students finished early. They are encouraged to write 3-5 sentences (depending on grade level) about their painting.
