Students will create a simple rose still life using paper, celery and paint!

THE PLAN
1 session; 40 minutes per session
1. SWBAT identify a still life.
2. SWBAT cut and glue paper.
3. SWBAT stamp a design.
1. Drawing paper
2. Random assortment of paper (construction paper or scrapbooking paper works best!)
3. Vase patterns
4. Pencils
5. Scissors
6. Glue
7. Tempera paint (rose colors)
8. Celery stalk, cut into 2 inch sections and rubber banded together.
9. Markers
1. Discuss what still life is. Have students point out the difference between a still life, a landscape, and a portrait.
2. Have students choose a piece of constructin paper to represent the tablecloth. Glue onto bottom of paper.
3. Have students trace and cut out a vase form. Glue onto table.
4. Using the rubber banded celery stalk, dip the stamp into paint and press it onto the paper to create a rose. Talk to students about making a balanced artwork.
5. Use a green marker to draw stems from the flowers into the vase.
At the end of class, show students a variety of artworks. Ask students to identify the still life. Use this as a ticket to line up.
