1. Introduce arbitrary color to students through a slide show.
2. Show student examples
3. Pass out mirrors and colored pencils.
4. Draw contour lines of face.
5. Use arbitrary colors to shade and add contrast/ forms to face.

This is a project I use as a transition from working from a photograph to working from life. We also do a self portrait from a photo earlier in the year.
