Pop Art Hands

Use this lesson as a way to introduce young students to Andy Warhol, printmaking and painting with tempera!

THE PLAN
2 sessions; 40 minutes per session

1. SWBAT identify artwork by Andy Warhol.
2. SWBAT paint correctly with tempera paint.
3. SWBAT make a stamp using their hand.

1. Manila tag board
2. Tempera paint
3. Paint brushes and water
4. Black ink/paint
5. Brayers (optional)

Day 1: Introduce Andy Warhol. Look at examples of his artwork that show repetition. Pass out tag board and have students fold it hot dog and hamburger style. Demonstrate how to neatly outline a box with tempera paint and then paint the inside. Place on drying rack.

Day 2: Discuss what a stamp is. Have students dip their hand in black paint/ink (or roll ink on their hand with a brayer) and then place one hand print in each box.
