THE PLAN
4 sessions; 40 minutes per session
1. SWBAT identify the elements of art.
2. SWBAT design a unified alphabet.
3. SWBAT draw at least six different patterns.
4. SWBAT identify the four zentangle steps.
1. Zentangle unit note packet (attached)
2. Sharpie Markers
3. Pencils
4. Computer with word processor
5. Printer
6. Drawing paper (3" x 4")
7. Mat board
8. Project rubric (attached)
Day 1: Review the elements and principles of art with students in their note packet. Hand out the project rubric and review project guidelines. Students can start drawing out their font by free-drawing their letters in bubble/block format or by printing off an appropriate font from a word processor and tracing the letters.
Day 2-3: Outline the letters (border of zentangle), add the string, fill with patterns and add value/color.
Day 4: Finish letters and then mount onto mat board.
This project was a "middle" project in my entire zentangle unit. This was done with an elective class comprised of 10th and 12th graders.
We used vellum drawing paper for these.
