This upcoming school year we are going to have one class that is a 1st/2nd grade split. Does anyone have any experience doing this? Any tips? Thanks for your help!

Allll of the classes that I have ever taught are split level classes. I like it this way because you can get older ones to help the younger ones and also use it as a classroom management tool, by getting the "older" ones to act more grown up because they are in charge of so many things. It's also quieter because less kids know each other. Have fun!

I had the severe behavior kids (already a mixed-grade class of about 5 kids) come in with a 3rd grade class. I was nervous the older behavior kids would "too cool" for the lessons, but it was fine. Everybody produced results according to their skill level, but doing the same assignment was not really a problem. I don't know if they even noticed!
