Hello Amy Hall! Are we early to the party? Where do you teach? I'm in Pitt County. We have been PLC-ing like mad to get ready for next year's CC, but we art teachers feel like hardly anything is changing since our curriculum is already so wide open. Are you doing anything for the big switch?

I teach Prek - 8th at a small independent school in Wilmington... we follow our own curriculum and are in the process of applying for IB certification. I used to teach in Wake County however, so feel your PLC whoas. Being independent, we aren't required to follow what the state does.

Hello Guys! I teach middle and high school and it's absolutely crazy! Cumberland County is transitioning over to 21st Century Essential Standards for the next school yr. it's going to be interesting to see how this works.

Hi, all! I teach in western NC in Henderson County. Just south of Asheville. We too are switching to the essentail standards this year. We have had a couple inservice meetings about it and will have one more full day on the 22nd. I too, like MsFoushee, feel this isn't a big change for us. I hear it is a big change for Social Studies as they will be teaching cronologically instead of geographically. I think this is very good for us as it will make it easy to crosscurricularly align our lessons. I have been introducing lessons using the Elements and Principles as my pacinog but could see switching to an Art History chronology especially in the advanced classes.

Hey NC, I teach elementary in Cumberland County. I feel like veronda, it is crazy here transisioning over to the Common Core. We are essentially doing the same thing, it is mostly the paperwork involved writing LONG lesson plans detailing all of the 21st Century requirements. Sofar I have only had to write them for our county wide PD. Hopefully my principal will have sympathy for me and let me keep writing the old fashioned 6 point lesson plans.

@Craftybunn: I've thought about switching to chronological order, too! I just started my 3rd year, so I'm still working the kinks out of my curriculum. My school is tiny and I get the same kids every year (plus however many decide to drop out of band), so I spend a lot of time with the textbook doing Elements & Principles in 6th grade, and do more art history with 7th & 8th. I still tend to organize it by elements & principles and not so much chronological, though. If you try it, I hope you'll let us know how it works out!

Hi everyone! I teach K-5 in Mt. Airy. The big thing we're doing this year is The Leader in Me...we started it last year with one school, and are on our 3rd year in another. Anyone out there a part of this?
