THE PLAN
3 sessions; 40 minutes per session
1. SWBAT identify the characteristics of a fairy tale.
2. SWBAT identify symbolism in Beauty and the Beast.
3. SWBAT design a stained glass window with radial symmetry.
4. SWBAT design a collage of Beast's castle.
1. Black construction paper
2. Gray paint
3. Small, square sponges
4. Scissors
5. Glue
6. Scrap paper bin
7. Sharpie markers
8. Circle tracer
9. Transparency paper
10. Tape
Day 1: View power point about fairy tales/Beauty and the Beast (attached). Discuss stained glass windows and what they could have looked like in Beast's castle. Students trace circle on transparency. Design a symmetrical circle window with black Sharpie. Turn over and color window with colored sharpie (so sharpie doesn't smudge the black).
Day 2: Trace/draw castle. Stamp brick texture on using paint and sponge. Finish coloring stained glass window.
Day 3: Show students how to trace and cut out a hole in their castle for the window. Cut out window (leave a little extra around it so it can be taped to the back of the castle). Students then use scrap paper to cut out and add other castle attributes (draw bridge, windows, bushes, knights, gargoyles, roof, etc.).
