I'm looking forward to using this lesson. The students will be replacing the commercial inspirational posters in the school hallways with their own art work - this project will be the perfect fit.
I love this project because even students with no artistic experience can create something beautiful which helps them build artistic confidence. Plus, every student has a quote or song lyric that they love which makes it really personal. Essentially, students create an interesting background (using paint, collage, pastel etc,). And then they add a meaningful quote. Students can play around with layering different mediums and sealing it in with Mod Podge. For example, many students used pastel on canvas board and then sealed it in with Mod Podge. The consistency changes and they learn a lot about colour, brush strokes etc. Some students did a layer of acrylic paint, followed by a collage effect of letters or words, and then layered the quotes on top. Mod Podge is the key to this project.
