1. Students will choose from a variety of pictures and draw a basic line drawing on their object.
2. Students will then be taught basic shading techniques such as having the darkest part of a shadow be heavier in shade and it gets lighter towards the highlight.
3. Students will use the stippling technique of only making small dots to shade their object. This means making many dots touching and overlapping in the darkest spots and gradually spreading them out towards the lighter highlights.

Students will be assesse based on their ability to draw the basic shape, and to patiently stipple the ink dots in to create a successful shading effect in their picture.

This project is basic to begin with but could be developed into more complicated pictures and also used to implement other ink shading techniques other than stippling. (crosshatching, scribbles, etc. )

It's a great one. I always do inked drawings after they have done pencil ones because it's a whole different element of shading when doing it with ink!
