THE PLAN
3 sessions; 40 minutes per session
1. SWBAT identify the primary colors.
2. SWBAT explain how to make the secondary colors.
3. SWBAT demonstrate how to paint with tempera paint.
4. SWBAT demonstrate scissor safety.
5. SWBAT demonstrate how to glue using "dot, dot, not a lot".
6. SWBAT cut out basic shapes.
1. 3 pieces of Manila tag board per student.
2. Primary colored tempera paint in the fluorescent colors.
3. Paint brushes
4. Elmer's Glue
5. Scissors
6. Water buckets
7. White scrap paper
8. Black Sharpies
Day 1:
1. Pass out tag board to students and have them write their names on the back of each of them. Pass out paint brushes and water buckets.
2. Review the primary colors with students. Ask them what color they think they will make when they mix red and yellow together. Take a few guesses.
3. Squirt some red and yellow paint on each person's paper and ask them to mix the colors together and paint the entire piece of paper. Students will start to see that they make orange.
4. Repeat for the other two secondary colors.
Day 2:
1. Review scissor safety.
2. Demonstrate how to cut tall, skinny triangles out of the green paper. Ask students what they think the triangles will become (grass).
3. Review using "dot, dot, not a lot" with the Elmer's glue. Show students how to use a few tiny dots of glue to attach the grass to the purple paper.
4. Students then cut out three pumpkins from the orange paper. These can be any shape.
Day 3:
Finish attaching grass and pumpkins. Use scrap paper to create eyes, mouths, a moon, a stem, etc.
