THE PLAN
5 sessions; 55 minutes per session
SWBAT identify the work of Henri Matisse and learn facts from his life.
SWBAT create multiple abstracted collages.
SWBAT review warm and cool colors.
SWBAT experiment with collage techniques, including tearing and cutting paper.
1. Glue sticks
2. Variety of scrap paper
3. Variety of 8.5 by 11 or 9 by 12 construction paper (for backgrounds)
4. Scissors (including fancy edge ones)
1.Students learn about the life of Henri Matisse, specifically his later life with collages or "drawing with scissors" through slideshow, books and videos.
2. Students choose a season to represent abstractly in a collage of their own design.
3. Students create a "jazz" collage while listening to Jazz music.
4. Students choose either warm or cool colors to create an abstract collage.
5. Teacher puts student artwork up for display.
