THE PLAN

Swbat connect line printing with letter making.
Swbat explain horizon line (used in a landscape)
Old credit card/hotel keys etc (class set)
Old credit card/plastic cards cut in half (class set)
Cardboard also works
Curved lines (paper rolls cut in half)
Heavy white paper 11x17
Black paint
Oil pastels
Tempera paint for sky&ground;
Small sponges for painting background
Images of famous architecture....local and from other countries.
Hand out with architecture examples-columns, archways, windows, rose windows, roof, etc
Good project to do after introducing drawing lines and shapes...
1). Introduce printmaking usking lines and curves. Demonstrate how to make lshapes oit of lines.
2) Practice printmaking...to make practice you can use white paint on colored paper to make lines that connect to make shapes. They can use oil pastells another day to color these shapes in.
3). Introduce architecture (showing work by Frank Loyd Wright and other architecture from around the world-there is a great book with famous buildings from all over the world).
4) They can design their building of their choice using printing tools and the handout for ideas (suggestion, create the outside of the building first).
5) Show students images of buildings in a landscape...pointing out horizon line...students paint the horizon line behind their building blue sponge painted sky and either grey or green under the horizon line.
6) demonstration oil pastel techniques and color their buildings.
Students are either not meeting objectives, meeting objectives or above expectations
What i find that is helpful in teaching this printmaking technique with kinders is to tell them that the cards are like bunny rabbits (big bunnies and baby bunny). Bunnies hop...they dont slide! Demonstrate that they hop in the "mud" and hop/jump on the paper to avoid big black mess! They all "go to sleep" on a clean trey! When i taught it this way, this year it was a lot more successful.
**My example images are done with paint vs. oil pastel. The medium is your choice-i feel it would be easier with oil pastels.
