Ever have a mound of gift wrap left over after opening gifts? This lesson will allow you to reuse it and recycle it into new uses. Students will be able to create a greeting card using left over gift wrap and gift bags.

THE PLAN
6 sessions; 60 minutes per session
1. SWBAT work with different materials while crafting greeting cards.
2. SWBAT use different colors while decorating greetings cards.
3. SWBAT learn ways recycle and make new uses for old items.
4. SWBAT learn how to incorporate different materials while making craft projects.
1. Poster board/ Card stock
2. Used gift wrap
3. Glue
4. Scissors
5. Markers,crayons, and/or colored pencils
6. Pencils
7. Pens
Optional: Yarn, ribbons, pipe cleaners, glitter, single hole punch, and stencils.
1. Cut some poster board into squares or rectangles large enough to be folded over into the shape of a greeting card. (5 minutes)
2. After you have made your crease open the poster board again. Lay your poster board on a piece of gift wrap and cut out the shape of your card. (5 minutes)
3. Glue the gift wrap to the gloss side of the poster board. Allow it time to dry. (15 minutes)
4. After the glue has dried, you can write your message on the inside of the card. (5 minutes)
5. Decorate the card further to your liking. Let any drying take place with the card open. (30 minutes)
6. Fold back into a card. Now it's ready to give to a loved one. (1 minute)
Students will be assessed based on how well they follow the basic instructions. While there will be an assessment, students are allowed to have fun with this assignment.
This could also be a class assignment for students to make patients at local hospitals or nursing homes a card to help spread cheer and love to those that are down and out during the holiday season.
