High [9th-12th] Lesson Plan

Faculty Disney Portraits!

Created on November 30, 2015 by StephieArtTeacher

This is an alteration of a previous lesson plan that I made for faculty fine art. This utilizes cartoon drawing techniques, photoshop, acrylic paints, and mixed media to replicate comical re-imaginings of classic Disney characters.

THE PLAN
4 sessions; 50 minutes per session

SWBAT accurately photograph their subjects, posing them in the right positions to replicate classic Disney Characters.
SWBAT use proportion to draw out the proper body shapes for their characters.
SWBAT use proper blending paint techniques to finish their piece.

1. Strong paper or canvas
2. Acrylic paints
3. Brushes
4. Water buckets
5. Photos of faculty members
6. Photocs of Disney characters
7. Pencils
8. Erasers

1. Have students work alone or in pairs.
2. Choose a Disney reference.
3. Photograph faculty member.
4. Print off photo.
5. Cut out the head of the photo.
6. Place head photo on paper to get a feel for proportion and then, using Disney reference, draw out the basic shape of the character.
7. Use paints to blend and fill in proper iconic colors to the character and outline in a bold black line.
8. Let dry and display in the hall!

Students will be assessed on their ability to re-create the recognizable character using another person's photo. They will be graded on accurate proportions and effectiveness on the look of their characters.

This project was a HUGE hit at our school because so many of our faculty members got into their "parts" and gave us really good expressions that were so similar to their characters. Getting everyone involved and having a lot of fun is key to this project. The kids love to see their teachers doing something fun like this.
