Kindergarten students create their own basic color wheels. They turn their wheels into hot air balloons complete with them as a rider!

THE PLAN
TLW identify dots and circles as shapes
TLW manipulate scissors effectively
TLW cut a square
TLW create a hot-air balloon scene
Copies of hot air balloon shape on white paper
Markers
Scissors
Glue sticks
Small pieces of brown paper
Blue 9 in x 12 in paper
Small pieces of white paper
1. Hand out copies of hot air balloon shape on paper
2. Demonstrate how to draw dots and circles and explain how dots are circle shapes.
3. Hand out markers
4. Explain that students must DRAW dots, not jam markers into paper.
5. Ask students to make different types of dots on their balloon
6. Asks students to color the rest of the area on their balloon in one color
7. Hand out scissors
8. Have students cut out their balloons
9. Hand out blue paper
10. Hand out white paper
11. Demo how to draw clouds
12. Have students draw and cut out clouds
13. Have students glue down clouds
14. Have students glue down balloon at top of paper. Explain that overlapping is good!
15. Hand out small brown papers
16. Demo how to draw and cut a basket for balloon
17. Have students cut out and glue down basket
18. Demo how to draw strings to basket and a person in the basket. Allow student to do this with marker and add their own special details
19. Display!
1. Student completed work
2. Student manipulated scissors effectively
3. Student drew people in their basket
4. Student drew different types of circles on balloon

I've done something similar with third grade as a soft sculpture. Color wheel balloon and woven basket attached with yarn.
