1. Ask students to examine the artwork and visually read it for you.
2. Ask students to identify shapes. Ask if there are shapes they can see for which they do not know the names.
3. Define organic/inorganic shapes, have students identify shapes in Matisse work.
4. Discuss Henri Matisse
5. Explain project
6. Hand out large white paper and crayons
7. Asks students to pick any crayon color and guide them into drawing a goldfish bowl on a table.
8. Have students color with crayons
9. Hand out tempera paint
10. Have students paint over their crayon work. Explain that some of the crayon will still be visible.
11. Have students paint the background black.
12. Allow to dry
13. Hand out yellow notecards
14. Demo how to draw a goldfish
15. Have students draw 2- 3 goldfish and color. Remind them to color even though the paper is yellow.
16. Hand out scissors and gluesticks
17. Have students cut out and glue down fish
18. Hand out glitter glue
19. Allow students to paint the glitter glue on the fish to simulate scales.
20. Allow to dry
21. Display!
