This is an activity I did with my Art club. Students learned about tikis, designed their own, carved their design into ivory soap, painted them acrylic paint and sealed them.

THE PLAN
2 sessions; 60 minutes per session
This is an Art Club lesson. The objectives are to learn about the significance of tikis in Polynesian culture and create their own from soap.
Ivory soap
Carving tools- I used needle tools, wooden craft sticks, and tooth brushes (to wipe away soap crumbles)
Acrylic paint
Spray sealant
1. Students read about and discuss tikis.
2. They design their own tikis on paper.
3. Carve their tikis into soap.
4. Paint with acrylic paint.
5. Teacher seals with spray sealant.
