Crayon Etching

Students will create still life etchings using scratch board that they made themselves using crayons and ink.

THE PLAN
1. SWBAT create scratch board with ink and crayons.

2. SWBAT create a still life drawing using their scratch board.

1. Crayons

2. India Ink (black)

3. Drawing paper or bristol board

4. Paint brush

5. Toothpicks or paper clips

Before starting this project provide a quick demo for students.


1. Fill sheet of paper with crayons using heavy pressure. Any color is allowed except for black.

2. With a paint brush cover the sheet of paper completely in ink. Let dry.

3. Next have an item ready to draw. It can be a photo if it's too much of a inconvenience to bring to school.

4. With a toothpick or paper clip begin engraving your drawing revealing the color underneath the ink. Crosshatching is great for shading.

Instead of still life drawings students may prefer to do mandalas or a drawing from their imagination.
