Wildlife Op Art

Students will learn about animals that live out in the wild, while also creating optical illusion artwork.

THE PLAN
1. SWBAT learn what Op Art is.

2. SWBAT learn about animals that live in the wild.

3. SWBAT make Op art of an animal using line to create form.

1. Paper

2. Pencil

3. A really good eraser

4. Ink pens - any color ( Stabilo Point 88 Fineliner Pens were used for this project)

5. Ruler

1. Students will be introduced to animals that live out in the wild. Then they will choose one to create art of.

2. After choosing an animal students will do a web search for pictures of that animal. Then lightly trace the shape of that animal in the center of a sheet of drawing paper using a pencil. (Try selecting pictures that feature the whole body of the animal to trace from.)

3. With a pencil and a ruler create 1/2 inch to 1 inch border around your tracing.

4. Next with a ink pen draw a straight line (as straight as you can make it) across your paper without going pass the border you made. When you get to the tracing of the animal start curving your lines around it creating the form of the body. Erase the pencil lines and then you are done. The border will give your Op art drawing a clean look.

A fun and easy art project to do with students at the beginning or the end of the school year. Also great for a substitute.
