THE PLAN
• Students will identify warm and cool colors and include them in a piece of art in the style of Robin Meade.
• Students will understand landscape/seascape and create an abstract drawing including the ocean, land, and sun.
• Students will learn how to use oil pastels properly and the technique of blending colors with baby oil. (Optional: watercolor instead)
white tag board paper, pencils, erasers, oil pastels, paper towels, q-tips, baby oil, and/or watercolor
1. Students are introduced to the project with a PowerPoint about the artist Robin Meade. Students will observe/discuss her warm/cool sunset paintings.
2. Students practice draw.
3. Students draw lightly and include lines for the ocean, land, and sun.
4. Demonstrate how to use the oil pastel and baby oil technique for blending.
5. Students use warm colors for the sun and sunset, cool colors for the land and ocean.
6. Once dry, students outline with a black oil pastel.
• Did the student draw a sunset seascape including the waves of the ocean, land, and sun with rays?
• Did the student color their sky with warm colors and the sea with cool colors?
