Observational Drawing

This is an entire observational drawing unit put into a power point. It uses a short note & practice section to learn 3 basic drawing exercises (blind contour, contour, and gesture drawing) and then three mini-projects and a final project.

THE PLAN
10+ sessions; 40 minutes per session
1. SWBAT practice drawing exercises to improve their observational skills.
2. SWBAT draw from real life.
3. SWBAT identify when something in their drawing does not look "real".
4. SWBAT observe values and shade them appropriately.
1. Still life setup
2. Drawing paper
3. Drawing media of choice
4. Mat board
5. Adhesive of choice

Day 1: Run through the notes and practice exercises for gesture drawing, blind contour, and contour drawing.

Day 2: Review Project #1, Blind contour drawing. Watch the TED talk video in the presentation and then begin.

Day 3: Finish blind contour drawings.

Day 4-5: Review project #2, Contour drawing. Watch the video embedded in the presentation and begin.

Day 6-7: Review project #3, observing values, and complete the assignment.

Day 8-10: Complete the final still life drawing.

Day 11: Take the drawings from all 4 projects and frame them together on a giant piece of matboard, carefully tacking them on with glue.
