This is a series of lessons that explore art on the body. We read the book Purple, Green and Yellow by Robert Munsch and discussed the tradition of henna before creating our own patterns on our "hands." I did this with 2nd graders.

THE PLAN
3 sessions; 60 minutes per session
SWBAT explain henna traditions
SWBAT relate a piece of fiction to a traditional art form
SWBAT identify a pattern
SWBAT extend a pattern
SWBAT create original patterns
1. Purple, Green and Yellow by Robert Munsch
2. Henna Samples (PPT or Handout)
3. Henna Practice Worksheet
4. Sharpies
5. Watercolor Supplies
6. Optional Crayons
This lesson could be done in a much shorter time-frame if desired. We were working on creating the habit of practice and learning to peer critique/edit our designs so I stretched it a bit to include those skills.
