3 sessions; 40 minutes per session

1. SWBAT mix primary colors to create a secondary color.
2. SWBAT mix and define tints and shades.
3. SWBAT cut paper into triangles.
4. SWBAT create conifer trees out of geometric shapes.
5. SWBAT use crayons to create patterns.

1. White or gray construction paper
2. Navy construction paper
3. Green, yellow, blue, black, white tempera paint
4. Paint brushes
5. Scissors
6. Glue
7. Crayons- construction paper or metallic
8. White chalk

Day 1:
1. Paint paper
-fold paper horizontally and vertically so you have 4 sections
-in the first section paint paper with green paint straight from the bottle
-in the second section paint with green from mixed yellow and blue paint
-in the 3rd section paint with a mix of green and white to create a tint
-in the 4th section paint with green mixed with black to make a shade
Day 2
2. Make trees
-cut painted paper into sections
-demonstrate cutting straight lines to make a triangle out of each section. Reserve scraps.
-arrange triangles on navy construction paper. Tell students they can overlap to show space. If trees are higher up on the paper and behind they look further away.
-glue down a brown rectangle for a trunk on each
3. Add details
-use crayons to draw patterns on top of triangles. Review what makes a pattern and connect to math
-can make lights or decorations instead of patterns
-use chalk to add snow
