Ceramic Whistles

Using a small amount of clay, and simple tools, students can create a ceramic whistle.

THE PLAN
Students will create a 'pinch pot' whistle that actually makes sound.
Ceramic clay, kiln, popsicle sticks, sponge, plastic fork

Teacher walks students through this procedure step by step.

Create two pinch pots and join them together. add a small coil extrusion onto the pot.

Using the popsicle stick, push through the coil extrusion into the cavity of the pot.

Create a 'sound hole' using the popsicle stick.

Adjust and check to make sure it makes sound.

Let dry completely and fire in the kiln. Glaze and refire
Does the whistle make noise? Did students decorate/add to the whistle shape to make it more interesting?
