1. Choose a quote and explain what the author means in your own words. (I have them answer in their sketchbooks.)
2. Practice or create four letter styles.
3. Practice at least two different layouts or design elements. (I only give one day for all these steps)
4. Lightly sketch out the words onto the final piece of paper making sure to fill the page. (I review composition as well).
5. Work on the lettering keeping in mind the intent of the quote. Use images to help illustrate and fill the empty space around or inside of the words.
6. Finish neatly using markers.
I use the same rubric for most of my projects. I look for completion, following the directions, craftsmanship and challenge (trying to do something new, different or difficult).
This is a great quick project. I use it after a long project as a way to keep early finishers busy.
