THE PLAN
5 sessions; 55 minutes per session
1. Students learn about pattern and incorporate it a design.
2. Students identify the 5 types of pattern found in nature.
3. Students understand how nature influence artists.
4. Students choose a photograph of a close up picture of nature and interpret it in a media of their own choosing.
This lesson allows the student to choose a media of their choice to best represent their photograph of a pattern in nature. Teachers may also choose to limit the types of media available.
1. Introduce lesson with powerpoint.
2. Students choose a pattern in nature card.
3. Practice sketching the design and decide on media.
4. Students create their abstract patterns in nature.

I always feel like I don’t do abstract art justice when I teach it. Students seem to struggle with complete freedom. This seems like a wonderful way to give students a structured start with lots room for creativity, thanks!
