This project was done in conjunction with a frog unit from the regular classroom. Students learned how to draw a frog body and incorporated everything they knew about a frog's ecosystem in their drawing.

THE PLAN
3 sessions; 40 minutes per session
1. SWBAT draw an appropriate frog habitat.
2. SWBAT draw a frog body.
3. SWBAT identify the parts of a frog.
4. SWBAT use good craftsmanship.
1. Drawing paper
2. Construction paper (green, red, white, black)
3. Markers
4. Crayons
5. Pencils
Day 1: Have students trace frog patterns, cut and create collage of frog head. Glue onto white drawing paper.
Day 2: Together, draw a frog's body. Discuss where a frog lives and what it eats. Have students draw background (log, lily pad, pond, trees, flies, etc.). Trace pencil lines with marker.
Day 3: Color.
I used this lesson with 1st grade and with my special needs class. They turned out awesome! The patterns for the frog head are pretty easy to make from various sizes of circles. For the folded frog head, I had the students fold their papers in half and draw half circles (we talked about symmetry). For the flat frog head, I had them use circle tracers.
