Pop Art Burgers

Students created these cool collages using various materials.

THE PLAN
2 sessions; 40 minutes per session

1. SWBAT explain what pop art is.
2. SWBAT create a pop art collage of a burger with their favorite ingredients!
3. SWBAT problem solve in order to decide what materials should represent their food.

1. Construction paper
2. Foam
3. Tissue paper
3. Pipe cleaners
4. Pencils
5. Glue
6. Shredded Easter grass

1. Look at examples of pop art. Discuss what makes pop art pop art. Talk about what students like to have in their burgers.
2. Draw the buns, cut them out and glue them onto construction paper. Fill in the buns to make all the meat of the burger...here are some suggestions:
-crumpled tissue paper = burger patty
-strips of foam = cheese
-cut foam = tomatoes
-green Easter grass = lettuce
-pipe cleaners = mustard and ketchup

I have also created pop art pizzas. First they drew their pizza shape (slice or pie) and colored the crust. Then we painted the sauce. The next class, students glued white and yellow Easter grass to make the cheese and then added their toppings.
