1. Review the difference between shape and form
2. Take students through drawing a sphere with the chalk pastels.
- draw a circle and color in with one color
- discuss light source and have students mark a little sun shape in the upper left-hand corner to remind them
- demonstrate how to and then have students create a tint (add white) to the left side of the circle
- discuss and demonstrate how to use a paper towel or tissue wrapped fingertip to blend the white into the color
- demonstrate how to and then have students create a shade (adding black) to the right side of the circle and blend
- discuss, demonstrate, and then have students color in a table area using a different color than the sphere
- discuss, demonstrate, and then have students create a ground shadow (cast shadow) by drawing with black and then blending it out
3. Spray drawings with hairspray when finished
4. (Day 2) Introduce the artist Wayne Thiebaud (I have a Prezi I created for this)
5. Demonstrate how to use the techniques from drawing the sphere last class to draw a cupcake inspired by Thiebaud
6. (Day 3) Have students create a chalk cupcake drawing using what they learned from drawing the sphere
7. Spray with hairspray or fixative

Students will be assessed with a meets expectations, below expectations, or exceeds expectations. Meets =students have succeeded in drawing a cupcake, used tints to show light side and shades to show dark side, created a ground shadow, and used good craftsmanship. Exceeds = all of meets + very neat or extra creativity. Below = students did not complete the cupcake, didn't use tints and shades, or was very messy.
