This is a simple paper plate weaving I did with 4th grade last year. It could easily be done with older students as well. The kids really loved it (you could hear a pin drop when they were working). It took a few more lessons than I would have liked but the results were well worth the wait!

THE PLAN
4 sessions; 60 minutes per session
SWBAT recognize and create radial balance.
SWBAT describe what weaving is.
SWBAT define a loom.
SWBAT discuss weaving in a cross-cultural setting.
1. Cut and prepare paper plates
2. String up loom.
3. Create an over-under pattern in a circle, making sure to keep radial balance.
Full lesson plans are attached. I took one lesson to string up the looms, one to learn and understand radial balance and two to work on the weavings themselves.
You can remove the weavings from the plates but I kind of like the look of them still on the "loom."
