1. Students use the pie slice (4 to a sheet) template to create a simple design
2. Students cut out desired pie slice(s)
—I suggest gluing the template paper onto a heavier stock paper to create a stronger stencil
3.Students trace stencils side by side, tip to tip onto larger sheet
—I suggest placing a dot in the center of the paper
—If this is not done perfectly, your circle will be compromised
4. Students begin to mix colors and paint.
—I suggest having them focus on 2 primaries at a time.
Students are assessed on a rubric that is given out before the project. They are graded on a scale of 0-3 for categories including: Craft, Use of Materials and Technique, and Use of Class Time.
Be sure to teach and have them practice how to mix and paint with whatever medium you decide to use.
Be sure to practice this process once on your own before teaching it!
