THE PLAN
1 session; 45 minutes per session
1. SWBAT define furniture design.
2. SWBAT define form.
3. SWBAT define contour lines.
4. SWBAT identify parts of a chair.
1. View images of various chair designs. We view images from local art museums exhibit of chairs and modern wire chairs by Jan Plecháčs. Discuss. (10 min).
- explain furniture design and chair parts
- review forms/contour lines
2. Demo how to make a wire person (10 min)
- students follow step by step
3. Demo how to start the wire form of the chair
- students work on their own chair designs. (25 min)
Test students by playing a quiz game about the parts of the chair.
Having the student practice making a person is a good idea to get them used to working with the wire. I had them follow step-by-step and then let them work on creating their own chairs.
